Program Installation Overview
The NoteFrog™ program is packaged as a self-installer and is a download of approximately 1.3MB, only a few seconds on a broadband connection. Installation itself also takes only a matter of seconds.
Both new installs and version upgrades are done using the same self-installer. For upgrades it is only necessary that you "Exit" the NoteFrog™ program (use the drop-down program "Exit" menu or the Tray Icon right-click menu) prior to running the setup program.

Technical Details: Installation and File Locations
When you install NoteFrog, unless you choose an alternate location both the NoteFrog and Hunspell Spell-check programs themselves (NoteFrog.exe and hunspelldll.dll) as well as the NoteFrog uninstall program and data, all will be placed in a NoteFrog folder in your Windows\Program Files folder,
C:\Program Files\NoteFrog.
Upon every execution, the NoteFrog program searches for an existing copy of its own initialization file: NoteFrog.ini to determine if this is a "first time" execution of this program and version. It looks first in the Windows "hidden" application data folder for an already present "NoteFrog" folder. If no such Folder and Notefrog.ini file are found, the program next looks in the NoteFrog program folder where the program itself is installed.
If an existing initialization file (NoteFrog.ini) is found in either location, that information points to the location of the NoteFrog users data Library as well as various startup information such as the active stack and specified option settings, and the program load is completed.
===========================
Need case where user has previously installed into other than the hidden folder
===========================
If no initialization file is found, NoteFrog notifies the user that no previous NoteFrog installation was found and asks for a location for the user data Library. Unless you have a reason to locate the Library somewhere else, accept the default location which is the Windows standard NoteFrog application data folder- a "Hidden" folder.
Typical Installation Using Defaults:

hunspelldll.dll (Hunspell spell-check program)

Installing Notefrog on a USB Flash Drive
If you would like to carry NoteFrog with you and run it from a flash drive, you will need to move certain files to the flash drive and make minor modifications to the NoteFrog.ini file. Due to windows imposed security considerations, these actions may only be performed by a user with "Admin" privileges and someone who is familiar with and comfortable modifying text files.
- Move NoteFrog.exe and Hunspelldll.dll (if you wish to do spell checking) from the program files data folder to the flash drive.
- Move NoteFrog.ini, NoteFrog.db and, if you want to use spell check, the .dic, .aff and optional .dat files from your Windows user application data folder for HTConsulting\NoteFrog. These are in a "hidden" system application data folder on your Windows system drive. For Windows XP the location is - system drive:\Documents and Settings \"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data and for Vista: system drive:\users\"user name"\appdata\roaming\HTConsulting\NoteFrog
- Using a normal text editor, e.g. notepad, open the NoteFrog.ini file and modify the path of the "Opened =" entry (if a path exists) and the "Dictionary = " entries to reflect the location on the flash drive.
You should now be able to run NoteFrog from the flash drive.
